Human NFL Analyst Extends Lead Over GPT Entering Week 4

The race between a human handicapper and GPT took another turn in Week 3, but the overall standings still favor the human side. After a 4-1 showing, Dan improved to 9-6 on the season and moved to +2.82 units. GPT finally posted its first winning week at 3-2, yet it remains well behind at 5-10 and -5.61 units through three weeks.

The margin is not just in total record. Dan has also finished ahead of GPT in units every week so far, and he won their Week 3 head-to-head disagreement as well. Dan took Pittsburgh with the points against Cincinnati, while GPT backed the Bengals. The Steelers won outright, giving the human analyst another edge.

The format remains unchanged for Week 4. Each side makes five best bets from the same odds board, and no selection can be priced worse than -120. Every wager is sized to win one unit, meaning a -110 bet risks 1.10 units to win one, while a +110 wager risks 0.91 units to win one. The odds for this slate were captured Saturday, Oct. 3, at 3 p.m. ET.

Dan’s Week 4 card

Dan’s five selections begin with Bengals -2.5 against the Jaguars. After fading Cincinnati successfully last week, he now sees value in backing the Bengals at home for less than a field goal, arguing that public reaction has swung too hard toward Jacksonville after its lopsided win over New England.

He also likes Buccaneers +3 against the Packers, even with Baker Mayfield out and rookie Jalon Daniels set for his first NFL start. The case centers on Tampa Bay’s rushing attack and the possibility that long drives in the Florida heat could help keep the game close.

Dan’s other picks are Patriots +7 at Bills, Dolphins +10 at Vikings and Saints -1.5 against the Falcons. He believes New England is capable of a bounce-back effort despite Drake Maye’s uneven start, sees double digits as too much for Minnesota to lay against anyone, and views New Orleans as the better team in a near pick’em at home.

Where GPT disagrees

There are two direct conflicts this week. GPT prefers Jaguars moneyline +125 over Cincinnati, pointing to Jacksonville’s strong early efficiency and the payout attached to an outright win. It also backs Falcons moneyline +115 against New Orleans, citing Atlanta’s extra rest and the Saints’ defensive absences.

Outside those disagreements, GPT’s card includes Cardinals -3 at Giants, Dolphins-Vikings under and Lions -3.5 at Panthers. Its Minnesota-Miami projection is 23-13, which would make the under a winner and leave Dan’s Dolphins +10 bet pushing right on the number.

Dan did not have much interest in Arizona-New York and passed on Detroit-Carolina, saying he was not comfortable laying more than a field goal on the road with the Lions. On the other side, GPT stayed away from Tampa Bay and New England while acknowledging some of the same matchup points that made those games attractive to Dan.

For now, the bigger picture remains clear. GPT showed improvement by posting a winning week for the first time, but the human analyst still holds the stronger season-long record, the better unit total and the bragging rights from their latest disagreement. Week 4 offers another chance for the model to narrow the gap, but it enters the weekend still chasing.
