Gypsy Rose Blanchard Launches Anti-Bullying Push After Death
Gypsy Rose Blanchard says she is channeling grief into advocacy after the sudden death of her partner, Kenan “Ken” Urker, who was found dead at his Louisiana home on Thursday, Oct. 1. Fox News Digital confirmed Urker’s death, and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said the 34-year-old was discovered after loved ones requested a welfare check. The date also marked his 34th birthday.
In posts shared over the weekend, Blanchard, 35, asked supporters to back an anti-bullying petition she calls Kenan’s Law. She wrote that, before his death, Urker faced what she described as an overwhelming level of online scrutiny that she believed crossed into targeted harassment and cyberbullying.
“I only have my daughter and my voice,” Blanchard wrote, adding that she was seeking support for the effort in Urker’s honor. She said multiple reports were allegedly made across social media platforms, but claimed the response was often that no policy violation had occurred.
A call for changes to platform moderation
Blanchard said the purpose of Kenan’s Law is to push for changes in how social media companies evaluate repeated reports of harassment. In her view, a single post may not appear severe on its own, but a large volume of posts, videos, and comments directed at one person can reveal a broader pattern that deserves meaningful review.
She also stressed that the campaign is not intended to silence criticism or limit free speech. Public figures, she said, can and should face criticism, but that does not remove their humanity. Blanchard said Urker’s death has left her determined to “turn pain into purpose” and advocate for a system that better recognizes sustained online abuse.
She urged followers to sign and share the petition, repeating her message that fame does not erase humanity and that harmful behavior cannot always be understood by looking at one post at a time.
What authorities have said
In a statement to People, Blanchard said she believes Urker died of a drug overdose, though she added that she does not know whether it was intentional. She said he had not been in a good state of mind recently.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, relatives became concerned and requested a welfare check. An incident report states that Anita Blanchard and her husband, identified as Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s half-brother, went to Urker’s home and saw him lying unconscious through an outside window. A man with them then entered through a window and found Urker not breathing and cold to the touch.
Investigators reported recovering syringes and a spoon beside a brown powdery substance in the bathroom. The report also says deputies found a handgun, two shot glasses, and a syringe on a nightstand near the bed. Authorities noted that Urker appeared to have been dead for an extended period.
The sheriff’s office told Fox News Digital that the case remains under investigation, but there were no signs of foul play. Officials added that if that assessment changes or a major development emerges, a new statement would be issued.
Background on their relationship
Blanchard and Urker became engaged in 2018 while she was incarcerated, though they later separated. They reunited after her first marriage, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Aurora, on Dec. 28, 2024.
Blanchard was sentenced in 2016 to 10 years in prison for second-degree murder in the killing of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, alongside then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn. The case later inspired Hulu’s 2019 series The Act. Godejohn received a life sentence without parole, and Blanchard was released on parole in December 2023 after serving 85% of her sentence.
