Texas Mother Charged After Two Sons Fatally Shot in Waxahachie
A Texas woman is facing capital murder charges after authorities say her two sons were shot inside their home in Waxahachie early Thursday morning. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Colleen Nichole Lemmon, 42, who was taken into custody and charged with two counts of capital murder.
According to investigators, deputies were called to a residence on Big Sky Drive just before 4:15 a.m. after receiving a report of an "unknown emergency." When law enforcement arrived, they found two male victims inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.
Authorities said Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 15-year-old boy, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries, officials said.
Deputies also found Lemmon at the residence with injuries described as non-life-threatening. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 4, she was covered in blood and had what appeared to be self-inflicted cuts on her wrists. Investigators also reported finding a handgun nearby.
Law enforcement said evidence gathered at the scene gave them probable cause to believe Lemmon shot both of her children. The affidavit states that she allegedly told officers, "I shot both my kids." After her arrest, she was taken to a local hospital for treatment, authorities said.
Family and community reaction
The boys' father, Scott Pitre, told NBC 5 that his younger son had recently celebrated his 15th birthday. He said he is seeking justice for both of his sons as the criminal case moves forward.
Neighbors also expressed shock and grief over the killings. Ida Brown, who lives nearby, described the deaths as heartbreaking and said she was praying for the family. The case has deeply affected residents in the neighborhood, where such violence is rare and especially painful because it involved two young victims inside their own home.
Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman issued a public statement offering condolences to the family. He said his deepest sympathies were with the victims' father, relatives, and loved ones, adding that they would remain in his prayers during an extremely difficult time.
Charges and bond
Lemmon is currently being held on a $2.5 million bond. Capital murder charges are among the most serious offenses under Texas law, and the case is expected to draw close attention as it proceeds through the court system.
At this stage, authorities have released only the facts tied to the initial investigation, arrest, and charging decision. No additional motive has been publicly detailed in the information released so far. As with any criminal proceeding, the allegations against Lemmon will ultimately be tested in court.
The investigation remains centered on the events that unfolded before dawn on Big Sky Drive, where deputies responding to an emergency call encountered a scene that left two sons dead and a family shattered. For the victims' loved ones, the focus now turns to mourning their loss and seeking accountability through the legal process.
