Tears from teammates as immobilized Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell carted off field and hospitalized

There was a serious and heartbreaking scene at Ford Field on Sunday when linebacker Jack Campbell was left motionless following a violent collision on a tackle, leading to him being removed on an immobilized cart.

After the play, when it became clear Campbell was in distress, trainers and doctors rushed onto the field.

Soon, players from both teams kneeled, watched, and some seemed to pray as Campbell was receiving attention on the field.

Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was visibly emotional to the point he seemed to be brought to tears.

The fourth-quarter collision that led to Campbell's injury was violent but not necessarily beyond what is routinely seen on most NFL game days.

Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson caught a pass in the middle of the field and was soon sandwiched by two Lions' defenders, including Campbell. The problem is Campbell arrived at the contact while falling to his knees and appeared to have his head slanted upward, so he made contact with his facemask rather than his shoulders and arms.

Campbell's head and neck seemed to compress into his torso upon impact.

Campbell collapsed onto the field and did not appear to move.

It took several minutes for medical personnel to complete their regimen for moving Campbell.

The Lions announced Campbell was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury. Later on Sunday evening the team reported Campbell is resting and will remain in a local hospital overnight for continued evaluation and monitoring.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family," Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters. "He's being taken care of. We don't have any new information. We'll keep you updated as this goes, but we're thinking about him."
